In response to “stairwell envy,” the employee health and wellness committee asked me to improve a second campus stairwell to encourage employees to climb the stairs instead of using the elevator. I had each floor painted a different color and selected animal and plant shapes that employees volunteered to paint on the walls. A muralist created a decorative animal on each landing and I installed a digital sound recording of lapping lake water. Employees love using these stairs.
